08 Mar NUCLEONOVA presents the DAMAVAN Compton V3 Camera
Nucleonova presents the DAMAVAN Compton V3 Camera, as we are the official distributor in Spain and Portugal. On March 8th took place the presentation of the DAMAVAN Compton V3 Camera at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, organized by Nucleonova, official distributor of this camera in Spain and Portugal. The event was attended by companies and universities representatives related to the nuclear sector, to whom the fundamental concepts of operation to visualize the radiation were explained. In addition, practical examples of the camera results were shown through previous measurements made in radioactive facilities stored in the software database and live demonstrations using radioactive sources of Cs-137 and Bi-207. The Compton Camera V3 is a radiation detector that allows in situ measurements and to accurately determine the origin and composition of radioactive sources. Its operation is based on the use of scintillation and semiconductor detectors for the detection of gamma radiation. This device uses the light and time distribution of each scintillation event to precisely locate each source decay, obtaining the spatial distribution and energy of these. Therefore, the Compton V3 Camera also allows isotope identification and detection of 4 Pi sources. Those attending the conference were able to see how the camera works and its usefulness for the identification of isotopes and the location of sources “in situ”. Among the uses of the Compton Camera, the “360º mapping”, which offers the possibility of locating sources within a room, was a great advantage for decommissioning and waste management activities in large spaces, where the location of sources is one of the most resource-intensive activities.
