17 Nov Nucleonova presentation. “Rigging Operations. A further step towards safety”. 2020 Virtual annual meeting. (Spanish Nuclear Society)
In the Nuclear Industry, as well as in other industries, different types of hoisting and rigging operations usually take place both in Normal Operations and during Fuel Refills of a Nuclear Power Plant. The importance of these activities becomes more evident when they involve heavy loads or happen close to Safety-Related equipment, so guaranteeing their correct performance becomes essential.
In this presentation, Nucleonova aims to highlight the importance of the supervision of load handling and rigging activities, as well as sharing some of the operational experiences of rigging in nuclear power plants.
For a correct performance of a rigging operation it is necessary to establish some requirements in the load handling, which depends on the equipment to be handled, lifting equipment, qualification of the personnel, environmental conditions, etc., considering as basic, among others, the design of rigging operations, personnel requirements, the execution and monitoring of the rigging operation, etc., in order to guarantee the safety of the people, the environment and the facility.
This presentation analyses some errors caused in Nuclear Power Plants worldwide, categorizing the causes that can serve as a reference to consider when carrying out rigging activities.
